North Carolina Venture Investments Surged in 2007

The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced the results of their 2007 CED North Carolina Venture Report in conjunction with the start of CED's 25th annual Venture conference in Durham, NC. According to the report, North Carolina companies raised more than $900 million in venture capital investments - a 72% increase over 2006. Nationally, venture capital increased by 16% over 2006. .

M. Vanini Investments files for bankruptcy

Real estate holding company M. Vanini Investments filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Wednesday. The Key Biscayne-based company listed up to 50 creditors, between $10 million and $50 million in assets, and between $1 million and $10 million in debts. Creditors include Armando E. Lacasa of Fort Lauderdale, BankUnited FSB in Hialeah, Lydian Bank & Trust in Palm Beach and Virtual Bank in Palm Beach Gardens. Genaro Delgado Parker is a director of the company and is managing the bankruptcy. GD Parker Inc., of which Parker is also a director, owns 100 percent of M. Vanini's equity securities. Michael Seese, lead attorney for the case, said the company chose to file bankruptcy because of the equity in the assets, and expects to obtain refinancing or arrange structured payout to the creditors.
